Start your marriage off with a plan

On Behalf of | Dec 28, 2017 | Uncategorized

The time to set the tone for your marriage isn’t once you say “I do.” You have to set this standard before you say your vows. One way that you can do this is to get a prenuptial agreement together.

While some people mistakenly believe that you need to have a vast asset portfolio to need to get a prenup signed before marriage, this isn’t the case. Even if you only have a small savings, you can get the prenup together to help protect you in the event your financial situation changes.

One thing that a prenup can do is to protect each person from the other person’s debts. You can stipulate who is liable for which debts in this agreement. If one party has been responsible with money and credit but the other person is swimming in debt, this might be beneficial.

Another thing that a prenup can do is to protect inheritances. While you might not have one right now, there is a chance that someone might leave you something one day. Having this outlined in the prenup can help you ensure that you won’t have to hand family heirlooms over to an ex in a divorce.

We realize that it is unpleasant to think about your marriage ending before it even begins. This isn’t really what a prenuptial agreement is about. This is something that you create in the hopes that you never have to use, but it is nice to know that it is in place if you need it.

You must ensure that your prenup is legally valid. We can help you do this, but don’t wait until it is too late to come up with the agreement. The other person needs time to consider the terms before signing the agreement or it might be considered invalid.
