Chris Rock involved in protracted divorce

On Behalf of | Nov 29, 2015 | Uncategorized

Upon entering a marriage, couples typically believe they are going to spend the remainder of their lives together. But as time passes, they may find that their feelings have changed and that a parting of the ways, although difficult, is their healthiest option. But while it is fairly easy to file for a divorce, the process of reaching a settlement may prove complicated and even drawn out.

As an example, take the divorce proceedings of comedian Chris Rock and his estranged wife, Malaak Compton-Rock. It certainly appears that they may be headed for an extremely protracted divorce. Recently, the former couple appeared in court. It is reported that the two were unable to come to an agreement regarding the issues of asset division, alimony and child support.

However, the pair had already managed to work out a child custody agreement. Earlier in the year, it was decided in court that the couple would have joint custody of their two daughters. Subsequent reports have emerged that they had also adopted another daughter.

Reportedly, Ms. Compton-Rock was asked in this most recent court appearance to provide documentation proving the adoption. The court also requested Mr. Rock to submit documentation pertaining to specified financial matters. If the pair cannot reach an agreement, their case will go to trial later next year.

This case shows how when a couple is debating multiple issues that involve money, divorce proceedings can become extremely time consuming. But often this problem can be avoided if the couple works to resolve their issues in as amicable a manner as possible. This can be done by using such methods as divorce mediation and direct negotiation.

Before you allow divorce disputes to get too far out of hand, you may want to solicit the services of a Texas divorce attorney. The attorney may be able to save you time and money by employing processes designed to reach an agreement in a timely fashion.
