What’s the best way to ask for a prenuptial agreement?

On Behalf of | Apr 26, 2018 | Prenuptial Agreement

Deep down inside, you know you want to ask your fiancé for a prenuptial agreement. Just the same, you have some concerns about bringing your feelings to light.

Asking for a prenuptial agreement is easier said than done, as you don’t want to do anything to upset your soon-to-be spouse. Even so, you realize that you need to get your feelings into the open as soon as possible.

There are several things you can do to make life easier on yourself when asking for a prenuptial agreement:

  • Don’t issue demands. It’s all about the way you approach the conversation. There’s a big difference between an open discussion and “telling” the other person about why you want a prenuptial agreement.
  • Be upfront in regard to why you want a prenuptial agreement. This isn’t a time to hide your true feelings and hope for the best. You should be clear about why you want a prenuptial agreement, while also letting your partner know that it’s meant for his or her protection as well.
  • Take time away from the conversation. You may need to have several conversations about a prenuptial agreement before you finally decide on how to best move forward. There’s nothing wrong with being patient, as long as you leave yourself enough time to take this approach.

These are the types of steps you can take if you want to ask your fiancé for a prenuptial agreement. As long as you know how to proceed, what to expect and the legal ramifications of a prenuptial agreement, everything will come together.
