Spurs’ Duncan files for divorce

On Behalf of | May 30, 2013 | Uncategorized

The San Antonio Spurs are on the cusp of their 5th NBA Championship after defeating the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference Finals. While much of the focus has been on the Spurs’ venerable big three (Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker), the team is considered a model franchise by NBA standards.

However, players still have lives, and sometimes emotional toils will affect their play on the court. Some find sanctum on the court when they are when they are going through a divorce, while others may fall flat.

Such may be the case for Tim Duncan. The team’s 37 year old power forward has reportedly filed for divorce from his wife of 12 years, Amy. The San Antonio Express News reports that Duncan suspected that something was amiss with his wife last fall, and hired a private investigator to track her whereabouts.

Amy reportedly filed a divorce petition seeking dissolution because the marriage had become “insupportable because of discord and conflict.” The pleadings also reveal that the parties signed a prenuptial agreement in 2001, and that Tim wants to have it enforced. His latest contract is worth three years and $36 million, but his net worth is likely much more than that, given that he has spent 13 years in the NBA.

The couple has two children, and the petition suggests that the parties will reach an agreement regarding legal custody, physical custody and child support.

The proceedings are reportedly stayed until the end of the NBA playoffs, which may lend to the notion that emotions stemming from the breakup are likely driving Duncan.
