In our prior posts we reported on the acrimonious back and forth between Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry, as he was involved in a Thanksgiving brawl that left him battered and bruised. In the weeks following the incident, both parties were embroiled in a nasty (and public) dispute over who caused the incident and how the future custody order should be written
Since then, the parties have mended fences, at least for now. While the specific details of the custody order have not been made public, the final outcome leads us to visit some essential elements divorcing couples should focus on.
Respect - It might seem obvious, but it is surprising how this basic tenet of any relationship is forgotten. Without respect, the divorce may be chaotic and emotionally destructive. With it, the split can be quick and orderly.
Disclosure of documents - In the vein of being quick and orderly, laying everything out on the table makes the process easier. After all, you will have a legal obligation to disclose your financial information anyway, so they are not worth hiding or fighting over.
Keep children's interests at heart - Essentially, parents' emotions and desire for revenge can take precedence over their children's happiness, but it shouldn't. If you work to ensure normalcy in your children's lives, you will be on the right track.
Mutually beneficial outcomes - You may deep seeded feelings about your ex, and may want to crush them in court. Basking in revenge may seem fulfilling, but it only prevents you from moving on.
By following these guidelines, chances are that your divorce will be easier.
