Divorce can change an unhappy ending

In a typical romantic comedy, the protagonists have to go through a series of challenges before finally meeting at the altar. Often, the final shot of the film features a prolonged kiss, which promises that the central couple will happily share their lives forever. It would be wonderful if we could all be part of such a joyous, long lasting union.

But the lives of these perfect couples have been carefully crafted by Hollywood screenwriters who are well aware of how the audience would like the world to work. The characters in such movies are not encumbered with the realities of day-to-day living. They are always understanding of each other’s needs. Sure, they may have disagreements, but that’s simply a function of the plot. We know that in the end, love will conquer all.

But reality is very different. Time does not freeze at a perfect moment of bliss to allow the credits to roll. Sometimes things are not meant to last. It can be difficult to accept that your marriage, which started off with such promise, has become the source of genuine unhappiness.

If you are now in a marital situation that has become untenable, then the counsel of an objective third party may help you decide the best way to move forward. It might be that a parting of the ways is in order. But this can be a more complicated proposition than what is depicted in the movies.

There are a variety of things that need settling prior to the finalization of a divorce. The division of property and financial assets must be worked out. If you have children, then both custody and support issues need addressing. Having someone who can offer guidance and representation could be extremely helpful when contending with this process.
