How to endure the emotional challenges of divorce

On Behalf of | May 4, 2013 | Uncategorized

A divorce can be an emotionally challenging experience. Parties may develop a certain sense of entitlement or feeling of betrayal. Either way, the emotions that come from the break up of a marriage can be so consuming that they make irrational decisions. Even more troubling, stress from divorce can literally  drive people crazy.

This is why it is critical to take care of yourself during a divorce proceeding, even if it is one that is fairly amicable. Why you may be doing well, there are others in your family (specifically children) who may need your support.

So what should you do? This post will identify some helpful tips

Take time to relax – This may be easier said than done, but reducing stress is essential to making it through a divorce. Whether it is reading a book, sitting on a beach or enjoying a good movie; whatever takes stress away, make it part of your routine.

Don’t sweat the small stuff – Divorcees commonly unravel when every little thing starts to get on their nerves. It could be heavy traffic, bad weather or your favorite team losing; these things tend to magnify stress. It’s better to  focus on the bigger picture (i.e. good health, good friends and the oppotunities the next day brings).

Find a way to laugh – There is something to the saying “laughter is the best medicine.” It’s hard to be angry when you’re busting a gut. Whether you enjoy sitcoms, stand up comedy or reminiscing with friends, a good laugh will help you avoid stress.
